Still trying to get the Pocket and Tablet PCs

Following up to the problems with Laptops Direct mentioned in my previous entry I spoke to Steve who said the money would be back into my account within 2 to 3 days, this was on Thursday the 14th. It's still not appeared so that's still trying to be sorted. It is currently in stock. However I can't actually buy it until the money re-appears. I also see no mention of a 2Ghz version anywhere, what the hell is going on with that?...

Mac zealots are stupid

Now for switching OS's.. you will find its easier to switch from PC -> mac then the other way around.. first of all you dont have to worrie with any type of DOS prompts (b/c everyone knows that windows still runs on DOS in he background) and even though mac OSX runs on Unix in the background... you rarely have to use any unix commands (i think i have only once....

Request - software that needs compatibility mode

I'm looking at doing up another tutorial video for my Windows XP site, this one covering compatibility mode. I've had a few leads so far so all hope is not lost yet. However if somebody knows of a game or any piece of software that won't run under XP SP2 without compatibility mode, but will when using compatibility mode please drop it in a comment. Requiring to be installed using compatibility mode is also a plus....

Tablet PC update

Well last Friday (or was it Thursday?) I went ahead and ordered the Toshiba Portege M200 from Laptops Direct, I was feeling a bit iffy buying it from a place I had never previously heard of, but they had the cheapest price and offered a no-dead pixel guarantee for an extra fee. On Monday they called me (good stuff!) up to inform me that the product was being discontinued, d'oh ran threw my mind....

What Windows needs?

WinCustomize has up a top 10 list of what the next generation version of Windows needs. A lot of it is really stupid. 1) New display system. This is what Avalon is supposed to address. The new display system needs to let us always run our systems as the maximum resolution our monitor supports and have the DPI (dots per inch) be fluidly scalable without impacting software compatibility. I shouldn't have to run my laptop at 1024x768 in order to be able to read text if it supports 1600x1200....

No thanks Sun

Saw this over on Channel 9. What the hell? We know we're using Sun Java, we had to manually install it since Java no longer ships with Windows, you've wasted millions of Windows users' time already, now you're wasting who knows how many millions of seconds by forcing us to close your own stupid pop-up ads in the system tray. I've since removed Sun Java from all my systems.

Silent Hunter 3

What a totally awesome game. Kudos to Ubisoft for seeing it through and giving the team the resources they needed to get the job done. The best naval simulator ever, anyone who wants something a bit different to the flood of FPS and similar games should at least check this one out. It's been years since I've sat down and played a game as much.

Billy Wilson dead at 33

Billy Wilson the guy who practically made Voodoo Extreme into what it once was died yesterday age 33. This is a major bummer. When he and Sharky were running Voodoo Extreme it totally rocked. I first discovered Voodoo Extreme when I got my old 3Dfx card way back in the day, it was really the site that built the gamer/hardware enthusiasts community that has spread over the whole globe and hundreds if not thousands of active sites that we have today....

GT4 verdict

I've spent some time with the just released uber-hyped Gran Turismo 4. What an absolute load of crap. PD claim it's the driving simulator? Simulator where? It's an absolute joke, there's no damage at all. You can ram into things all day and not get penalized for it, you wanna use another car to get you around the corner? Yup you can, come on even Sega GT nailed something as simple as that....

New Xbox 2 article

Just written up a bit of a news round up on the Xbox 2. Xbox 360? Back nearly a year ago, a list of potential candidate names was unveiled for the Xbox 2, on this list contained Xbox 360, now considered by many the final retail name for the next generation Xbox. The reason being to better compete. Xbox 2 sounds older then PlayStation 3 - therefore if they bump it up to 360, it sounds more cutting-edge and more modern....
