Feeds and advertising

I'm a huge fan of web feeds, I'm using RSS Feeder.net at the moment which is a great tool, it syncs to Outlook, unlike something like RSSBandit which includes a web browser, I'd have to pop up a new window to actually view the content - that's kind of annoying. Of course ideally the feed will contain all of the content - then I can just read the whole lot within Outlook....

iPod Nano, impossible small - impossibly fragile

Now I've heard a lot of people talking about how fragile the new iPod Nano is since it came out, the original iPod could scratch quite easily but it had a very solid feel to it too. The iPod Nano has been out for a while, and we've got lots of experiences floating around on the internet, it seems it's in whole new league, you can scratch it with your finger nail, just keeping it in your pocket with nothing else for a few hours will make it look like it's been attacked by sandpaper....

Time to close the forums?

Forums have a good spot, then they tend to go down hill unless the moderators run it like a police-state - which tends to make it go down hill only slower. The Portal Forums are on the decline, there's a lot more people, most of them alright but there's a bunch of people who just insist on getting into flame wars, those that every other post seems to be criticism of someone's post which just adds to the problem, temporary bannings tend to do nothing, I'd ban outright, but sometimes they contribute to the boards in a sensible fashion....

Radeon X850XT PE + VIA SATA RAID = d'oh!

I picked up a Radeon X850XT PE a few days ago now, the card itself is a massive improvement over the Radeon 9800 Pro, this is on a Athlon 64 3200+. Runs everything I can throw at it at 1920x1200 great stuff. I'm making the post however to just get out on the web so more information on a few issues that arise with a VIA SATA RAID chip on some boards and the X800/850 chips, in my case on the KV8-MAX3 board, but it seems to effect all boards with the VT8237 southbridge....

Shock & awe in the tech world

The PDC is on at the moment so Microsoft have opened the floodgates, Channel 9 is overflowing with cool new videos. Bill Gates' keynote is now available, it's just short of 3 and a half hours but has some very cool stuff some of which also shown in the videos below. On the Channel 9 front: Office 12! For someone who uses Outlook and rarely uses Word, sometimes Excel I can never find more complex stuff, everything is buried under these menus that explode everywhere on the screen and it takes a good few minutes to find something, if at all....

Avalon = wow

I remember seeing some demos of "Avalon" (now dubbed the Windows Presentation Foundation) a while back and was impressed with how simple it is to build up the UI (using XAML), however Microsoft have just released a new video, that is very graphic, I think they were just using Notepad in the one I saw but this actually shows all the changes happening in real time in the little application they put together....

Couple of new minor-sites

One based on F.E.A.R. due to popular demand, and also one for Omikron, because apparently #2 is coming out. I'd love to do one for X3 Reunion, however I doubt I'd have anywhere near enough time to do a project of that size, let alone play the game itself. Oblivion Portal and Xbox 360 Degrees are doing quite nicely and by the end of the year will no doubt be consuming a large amount of my time....

Bitter Apple

Ryan Boswell: Honestly, how many people (of all computers users) actually use that piece of junk? [Refering to the Tablet PC] Now now do I smell a jealous little Apple fan? I'm sure there are tens of thousands of Tablet PC users that would like to comment on this on his blog, yet he seems not to have comments or trackbacks... Hmm like so many Apple fans stuck in their own little world....

Mainstream and then some

Xbox 360 Degrees: If that's not enough they put Sony into checkmate with the media functions of the Xbox 360, there's just so much you can do. I don't know about you, but I store all my media on my PC. At the moment there's no real way to get it down into the living room and get it enjoyed by everyone easily. This all changes with the Xbox 360, using Windows Media Connect (available for free via Windows Update)....

For the spammers

Now this is pretty cool, it's now being shown to all referrals coming from the black list, the spam robots. If you have reached this page in error, feel free to bypass this message with our apologies. Please leave a comment telling us to stop blacklisting sites matching [$string] so that this doesn't happen again. Thank you, and sorry for the inconvenience. If, on the other hand, you are a bandwidth-eating referrer spam robot, then we hope that your owner dies a painful death and rots in hell, and that his or her seed is scrubbed from the face of the earth....
